ArkAir was born out of the Arktis Group in 2014. Central to the ArkAir project is the use of Special Forces Camouflage design and military grade fabrics. These prints & smock designs are offered exclusively in the ArkAir range.
The founders of ArkAir were members of the UK Special Forces Marines and Commandos, where at the time standard kit was poor. The military required durable products ready for battlefield use. In 1985 they founded Arktis and pioneered their Combat Smock using a newly developed Ripstop fabric. Arktis is still designed and manufactured for special forces, anti poaching units, emergency services and police forces. Historically they supplied the SAS, UK Marines, British Army, Security Communication units for The White House. They also supplied the Danish, Australian, Swedish, Russian, French, Ukraine and South African Special Forces.
All garments are produced to a high-specification, with each garment being sewn and assembled by a single person using sewing threads that are ultra long lasting. Reactive dyes are used on all fabrics making each garment extremely colourfast. Garments are manufactured to military standards in their factory in Exeter, Devon in the UK. As testament to the quality, it is not uncommon for garments over 20 years old to come back to their factory for reproofing and repairs.
The Splinter design was offered to French urban S.F. units looking to hide in broken brick work & concrete. The design is an optical effect, which you will notice works in several ways. At greater distances, it cuts up the outline of the wearer, mimicking broken rubble and harsh masonry lines, whilst at shorter distances the ‘blurring effect’ fools the eye making it seem as though the wearer is merging with the environment.
